The work of rescuing the victims of human trafficking is of vital importance in the work of the Church- BUT how often does the Church ask the question “What happens next to these innocent victims”? Our family has lived the “what happens next” scenario. In February of 2020, our family of five became a family of 8 overnight. We had no idea the horrors our three beautiful girls (ages 7, 9, and 10) who we adopted from a Liberian orphanage, had endured at the hands of those closest to them.
These kids may be out of the nightmare they were living in, but their minds are frozen back in time. We’ve been told over and over that the level of trauma our kids have experienced is way above what professionals are accustomed to treating. We’ve also been told over and over that there are few resources out there to help families in these situations, and the few that are available, cost more than any family can afford.
This being said, it is truly a miracle to look back over the past four years and see how God has provided, healed, and grown each of us. Only He can take what the enemy intended for harm (for our adopted and biological children alike) and use it for the good of those who love him! Romans 8:28. I’ve watched my three Liberian babies go from hours of extreme dysregulation to laughing and giggling with one another.
My kids never had a chance at a typical childhood. They had to develop tools to keep themselves safe when the adults around them were not able to. These skills do not just disappear once kids are integrated into a family. They are safe, but their brains tell them otherwise.
Meet Pauly (Adopted at the age of 7)
Before the age of five, Paulyn was found on the streets begging for food. At the age of 5, she suffered severe, terrifying, and consistent abuse at the hands of her caregivers in the Liberian orphanage. No child on earth should have to experience a fraction of the evil Paulyn endured at the hands of those who were supposed to care for her needs.
Due to the magnitude and level of her trauma, it has become evident that Pauly's needs are beyond what our local mental health services can offer. Pauly is currently in a program that is helping to stabilize her emotions so that she can rejoin her adopted family and become the incredible daughter of the Most High God He created her to be.
Please be in prayer for all our kids, but especially for our youngest adopted daughter as she digs daily into her past in order to find freedom for her future.
We are walking one day at a time- and trusting that God will continue to provide spiritually, emotionally, physically, and financially for all her needs.
Please partner as the lord leads through intentional prayer, and giving, as Pauly’s family seeks further healing for their daughter emotionally, physically, and spiritually.
In one week I will be joining with a team from Arise Collective Theater overseas for an extended month in Thailand and Cambodia, presenting art through spoken word and song, proclaiming the message of salvation throughout southeast Asia.
The main ministry focuses will be:
- Sharing through dramatic arts in Ratchaburi prisons and the street districts of Bangkok.
- Visiting a children’s home again that I have previously served in. The home houses over 500 refugee children, and we are excited to serve them in whatever way we can, stepping into any need that may arise while we are there, as well as blessing them with spoken word and song
- Relief work with the Karen tribe refugees along the banks of the Moei river.
- Scouting Chiang Mai and Cambodia for locations to perform PILGRIM The Musical through Arise Collective Theater
Praying and asking the Father for,
- Lives to be completely transformed by the love of Jesus.
- That many will be moved to repentance by the heavenly Father's kindness!
- Healing and restoration.
